There is perhaps no better description of a cynical, ill-natured, and mean-tempered person than the Grinch.
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You're as cuddly as a cactus, you're as charming as an eel. Mr. Grinch, you're a bad banana... You’re a monster, Mr. Grinch. Your heart's an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders. You have garlic in your soul.
As we continue reading in our salvation story, Jesus encounters a synagogue ruler who is quite the curmudgeon of man. He became angry at the healing of a crippled woman. He exhibited all the behaviors befitting an unfruitful tree, the kind of tree that Jesus said in last week's episode would be cut down and thrown into the fire.
In contrast to the indignation of the synagogue ruler was the joy expressed by all the people. Joy and gratitude are the fruit of a person who has personally experienced the transforming power of God's love and mercy. This Thanksgiving your life should bear an abundance of spiritual fruit, the fruit of praise.
